This is a wonderful comfort food dish that says nothing but the South to me. Nothing smells better in the morning than biscuits getting ready to come out of the oven, and sausage frying in the pan! Like grits, this is a pure comfort food to me.
This is another recipe that many of my friends love, but think it's too complicated to make. Sausage gravy and biscuits couldn't be easier. Not only is it easy, but it's quick to make and you use only two pans. You'll need a frying pan for the sausage & gravy and a baking pan for the biscuits. That's it!
Ingredients:
- Biscuits (you can make your own, but I cheat and buy the frozen ones in the store)
- 1 pound of ground breakfast sausage
- 5 tablespoons of flour
- 4 cups milk
- Pepper to taste
- Serves 4
Method:
Before you start making the gravy make sure you put your biscuits in the oven. Since most biscuits I use need approximately 25 minutes to cook, I start them first. Believe me, this sausage and gravy is only going to take 15 minutes to make. Brown the sausage in frying pan, do not drain and lower heat to medium high. Add flour and stir into meat. Add milk and stir until thick. If mixture is too thick, add more milk until it reaches your desired consistency. Add pepper. Pour over cooked biscuits and sit down and enjoy. Trust me; this is some good southern food.
