Pineapple and Cucumber Sambal

A local Malaysian dish.

Ingredients :

  • 8 fresh red chillies -all or a few seeded
  • a piece of “ blachan “ 2” x 1” x ¼” -roasted
  • 4 dessert spoons good dried prawns well cleaned,
  • washed and soaked in boiling water before dining
  • 3 dessert spoons vinegar or lime juice ( optional )
  • Salt - to taste
  • Sugar - to taste (if required)
  • 1 cucumber - cut into slices
  • 3 thick slices of ripe pineapple -cut into pieces

Method:

Pound the chillies and roasted “blachan” till fine. Remove from mortar and then pound the dried prawns to break them up.

Mix the chillie and “ blachan” paste, the pounded dried prawns, vinegar, salt and sugar with the cucumber and pineapple.

Serve with rice and curry or with fried noodles.
