Perfect Basmati Rice: A Low Fat Recipe

How to cook basmati rice to perfection.

This recipe is very tasty and light. It can be combined with a range of yogurt based relishes. This recipe serves two.

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice
  • water
  • cumin seeds or cinnamon stick
  • salt

Directions

  1. Measure a cup of basmati rice. Soak the rice for a few minutes, rinse thoroughly and then leave it to soak in water until used.
  2. Measure two cups of water and place in a pan. Add a teaspoon of cumin seeds into the pan. Alternatively, you could use a clove or a small cinnamon stick instead of cumin seeds and a pinch of salt (if you like). Cover and heat the pan.
  3. When the water is boiling, drain the rice (stored in water) and add it to the pan. Cover the pan once again and cook on medium heat.
  4. After 5-7 minutes, the water is no longer seen on top of the rice. Do not stir the rice during this process and continue cooking at a very low heat for a further 2 minutes.
  5. The rice is now ready to eat. Remove from heat and serve.

You could have a nice salad on the side or a delicious yogurt relish. This recipe is well suited for people suffering from upset stomachs. The small amounts of cumin seeds or cinnamon have well known medicinal properties and aid in soothing the senses and the yogurt is known to improve the digestion of food.
