Vinayak Chavithi is celebrated in the whole of India on a particular day by buying an idol of Lord Ganesha. It is said that the favorite dish of Lord Ganesha is Undralu, which is prepared in a different manner in different parts of India. The most common way to prepare this sweet dish in the southern part of India is as follows:
Ingredients:
- Chapati Aata or Flour - 1 cup
- Jaggery - 1 cup
- Khas khas - 1 tsp
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Cashew - 4 tsp
- Raisins or Kishmish - 3 tsp
- Water - 2 cups
Preparation:
- Prepare thick dough of the flour mixed with sufficient water. Place it aside for an hour or two.
- Take small quantities of this dough and make thin noodles similar to the vermicelli and add on very little flour over these stings to avoid cracking
- Allow these noodles to dry for at least half an hour
- Add water and jaggery to a pan and heat it until the whole of the jaggery melts
- Once the jaggery is dissolved completely, add on the flour noodles and allow them to cook
- In another pan, add on ghee and allow it to melt
- Once the ghee is warm, add raisins and cashews. Fry them until they turn light brown in color.
- Once the flour noodles are cooked add on 2 tsp of flour to thicken the recipe
- Add roasted khas khas to the recipe, along with fried raisins and cashews
- Serve hot
This dish if prepared perfectly it would taste really good. Mostly serve it hot. If one wishes you can even add freshly cut coconut pieces. Undralu is the famous dish prepared mainly during the Ganesh Chavithi. It is said to be the favorite dish of Lord Ganesha.
