South Indian samber in North Indian flavor

A nourishes lunch meal served with rice.

It is a lunch / dinner meal serve with rice.

Ingredients:

  • Red gram dal- 1 cup
  • Brinjal – 3
  • Cauliflower- ½ kg
  • Carrot- 100 gm
  • Tomatoes- 200 gm
  • Lady finger-200gms
  • Tamarind- 50 gm
  • Onion- 1 full
  • Samber powder- 3 tsp full
  • Mustard seed- ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves- ½ cup
  • Sugar-1tsp
  • Red chilies-pieces whole
  • Asafetida powder- ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Urad dal- 1tsp
  • Channa dal- 1tsp
  • Oil- 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Soak red gram dal and tamarind in water separately and keep a side.
  2. Peel and chop all the vegetables (brinjal, tomatoes, cauliflower, Ladyfinger, carrot, onion) separately.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan. When heated, add red chilies, mustard seed, asafetida, urad dal, channa dal and chopped onion.
  4. When onion is golden brown, add all chopped vegetables, red gram dal, tamarind juice.
  5. Cook for a while, then add samber masala, curry leaves sugar and salt. Pour all the mixture in cooker. Add 3 cups of water and cook for 15 minutes.

Serve with rice at Lunch.
