A 100% vegetarian, and rather healthy version of the KFC wrapstar.
The Wrapstar is a mix of eight ingredients, and is made by KFC as fast food. Before I became Vegetarian, this was my favourite KFC meal, and after watching two people in my family eating them last week in front of me, I decided I'd try making one.
The main feature, apparently, is the tostada. This just means a tortilla that is either toasted under the grill, or deep-fried.
Ingredients and Equipment
- 2 flour tortillas (wholemeal if you want it healthier)
- 1 tin (or eq.) chopped tomatoes
- 1 whole red chili
- Fresh tomato, diced
- 1 tsp. lime juice
- Spring onions or half normal onion, chopped
- 1 slice cheese (processed, or fresh if you want it healthier)
- Mayonnaise (unless you don't eat eggs)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lettuce
- 1 Quorn (or other veggie brand) southern fried burger
- Medium sized bowl
- Baking tray
Cocktail sticks
Method
- First you need to get everything ready. Get a saucer, and place it on one of the tortillas. Cut around it with a knife, and place to one side. Preheat the oven, whatever that means. Stick the southern fried burger in, see the packet for instructions. While this is doing we can make the salsa.
-
This is my own recipe of salsa, you can use your own or a store bought version if you like. First take your tin of chopped tomatoes, empty whole tin into a bowl. Take your chilli, cut off the end, and scrape out the seeds and innards with a knife. Finely chop this and add it to the tomatoes. Next take your spring onions or your normal onions, whichever you chose. Chop them and add them to the salsa. Next add your limejuice, and then salt and pepper to taste.
-
Now take your other tortilla. Place it on a plate, and spoon on a few tablespoons of salsa. Place your lettuce on top of this, and your other chopped fresh tomatoes.
-
Once your burger is done, take it out of the oven and place it on what you just made. Place the cheese on top of this (the warmth will help it melt nicely). Add a few spoons of mayonnaise, and more salsa if you want to (but not too much, you want to be able to close it afterwards).
-
Take your smaller cut tortilla and place it under the grill just until it goes brown. Turn it over and toast again until crispy. Place this on top of the mayonnaise.
-
Now here's the tricky bit. You have to fold the edges of the tortilla that's on the bottom in to make a parcel. Use your cocktail sticks to hold it in place. Once this is done, place it in the oven, and leave in for 5 minutes.
-
Once this is done, take it out of the oven. Serve on it's own or with fries and cola and enjoy!
