Shawarma is one of the dishes that can be prepared easily and is a very spicy meal.Chicken which is thinly sliced is served together with pita bread , sauce and vegetables full of spices.Shawarma is an exciting dish.Shawarma is now available in restaurants,and even in small bakeries.The ingredients required for making Shawarma are listed below.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs skinless and boneless chicken which is very nicely cut
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- Juice from 1 lemon
For The Sauce:
- 1 small bowl of tahini
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
Pita Fillings:
- 8 loaves of pita bread or 4 large
- Thinly slice cucumbers
- Thinly sliced onions
- 1/2 teaspoon sumac
- Thinly sliced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Pickle slices (optional)
Method
Combine all ingredients except for chicken, fillings, and sauce ingredients to make marinade. Add a little olive oil or coconut oil if the dish becomes dry.
Cover and refrigerate the chicken with other ingredients for at least 8 hours.If this is done during the night,you can prepare the dish in the morning
Cook chicken over medium heat for 45 minutes . Be sure not to overcook! If chicken becomes a little dry, add a few tablespoons of water throughout cooking duration.
When the chicken is in the fire,prepare the sauce,and keep it aside.Take the vegetables and cut it into thin slices,and mix it together in a bowl.
When the chicken is fried,cut it into small pieces.if you like large pieces for chewing,have large pieces.If the chicken is cut into small pieces,then all the spices mix together and we get a nice taste.
Method for Pita bread
Place chicken over the pita bread and cover it by the loaf.Add all the vegetable stuff and pour a bit of sauce over it.Roll it like chappatti,or take it as such.you can also eat it like pitza.
To make the marinade
In a medium bowl, mix garlic, lemon juice, and oil together and add curry powder, salt, pepper, and food coloring and mix it. Add chicken and coat with marinade. Marinate chicken at night in the refrigerator.
Preheat a grill to medium heat. Remove chicken from marinade. Grill chicken for about 10 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through. Serve chicken on pita.Add Shawarma and sauce.
Shawarma Sauce
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 cup store-bought tahini
- 3 cups water
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- Salt
Chop the garlic and make it similar to a paste.Add tahini to it and mix it thoroughly.Now add,cold water,lemon juice and mix it till it forms a paste similar to tooth-paste.Add salt to your taste.
