Ingredients
- 1 1/4th C. Flour
- 1 Tbls. unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- 1 stick (4 Oz.) butter, softened
- 3/4 c. granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbls. red food coloring (See variations for holidays.)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
Method
Take five Tablespoons of the butter, soften and mix with the sugar. Beat with an electric mixer three minutes until fluffy. Add the egg and beat more. Add cocoa, salt, soda, and food coloring, and beat some more. Add in the flour alternately with the ½ cup milk and mix until smooth.
Bake the cookies on a prepared cookie sheet. (350 F. ) Pour 1/4 cup batter on the sheet, flatten the cookies with a spoon and bake 12 to 15 minutes until a tester stuck in the middle of a cookie comes out clean.
Frosting
- 2 cups confectioner's sugar
- the remaining three tsp. soft butter
- 2 Tablespoons corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla and
Method
2 Tablespoons hot water. (Approximately) Mix until smooth and spreadable. Split the batch in half. Add blue food coloring to half the frosting to make dark blue. Spread white on half a cooled cookie and half blue. Frost all cookies.
Make these cookies for Halloween with orange food coloring and Halloween themes for decorations.
