Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour (8 oz) [240gms]
- ¼ cup sugar (2 oz) [60gms]
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup soft shortening (margarine) (2 oz) [60gms]
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup milk (¼ pint) [140ml]
- 2 cups thinly sliced apples (8 oz) [240gms]
- ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar (4 oz) [120gms]
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/3 cup butter melted (2 oz) [60gms]
- ½ cup slivered almonds (4 oz) [120gms]
Method
- Sift the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and cut in the shortening.
- Add the milk and eggs and barely mix.
- Pour the mix into s greased eight inch [20 cm] square pan.
- Lay the apple slices evenly across the top and sprinkle with the brown sugar and spices.
- Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the apples.
- Top by sprinkling the almonds over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°f or gas mark 6 for twenty-five minutes.
For best results serve warm.
