How to Make a German Bread

Simple steps to make a German bread.

Ingredients:

  • 150g bread flour
  • 200g rye flour
  • 90g cornmeal
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • One teaspoon salt
  • One tablespoon caraway seeds
  • One tablespoon molasses
  • Four tablespoons melted butter
  • 250ml lukewarm water
  • One teaspoon caster sugar
  • Two teaspoons instant yeast
  • 8 x 26cm bar pan

Things to Prepare:

  • Baking paper
  • Aluminum foil

Methods:

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix and knead for 10 minutes to form smooth dough. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and leave aside for 2 hours or until dough doubles in size.
  3. Line the sides of the greased pan with double layers of baking paper, extending about 7cm above the rim of the pan. Knead the dough again until smooth and put it into the prepared tin.
  4. Cover and leave to rise for about half an hour, or until the dough has risen to the top of the pan. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

Sounds weird, but going to make this for my 94 year old German grandfather. He's going to love it. :D
