Make Your Own Gourmet Popcorn

Why spend a lot of money or gourmet popcorn when you can make your own at home.

Astronaut Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 8 cups Popped popcorn
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Tang, powdered orange drink
  • 1/3 cup Light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda

Method

  1. Place popcorn in a large buttered baking pan.
  2. In separate pan, combine sugar, drink mix, syrup, water and butter.
  3. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
  4. Cook until mixture reaches 250~ on a candy thermometer, stirring frequently.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in orange extract and baking soda.
  6. Pour over popcorn, mixing well.
  7. Bake for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  8. Allow to cool completely.

Bacon Cheese Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 4 quarts Popped popcorn
  • 1/3 cup Butter -- melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon Seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Hickory-smoked salt
  • 1/2 cup American cheese -- grated
  • 1/3 cup Bacon bits

Method

  1. Pour freshly popped corn in large bowl.
  2. Combine margarine with hickory-smoked salt.
  3. Pour over popcorn; toss well to coat.
  4. Sprinkle with cheese and bacon bits.
  5. Toss again and serve while warm.

Bayou Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Butter; or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 12 cups Popped corn

Method

  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt butter over med.
  2. heat.
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients except popcorn.
  4. Cook for 1 min.
  5. Pour over popcorn, tossing to coat evenly.
  6. Serve at once.

BBQ Popcorn

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons Hot air-popped popcorn
  • 1/3 cup Butter
  • 3 tablespoons Chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  1. Place popcorn in large bowl.
  2. In small saucepan, melt margarine.
  3. Stir in chili sauce, onion and chili powder and salt.
  4. Pour chili mixture gradually over popcorn, tossing to mix well.
  5. Sprinkle with cheese and toss.
