Easy Gougere

This will satisfy any hungry palate.

Ingredients

  • 80 grams butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup plain flour, sifted
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup cheese, grated

Method

  1. Bring butter and water to boil in a pan.
  2. Keep stirring till the butter is melted.
  3. Add the flour all at once and stir well till the mixture leaves the side of the pan.
  4. Take the pan off the heat and add eggs one at a time.
  5. Beat well with a beater and stir in the cheese.
  6. In a large round greased pan, spoon the pastry around and up the sides of the pan leaving a hollow in the centre.
  7. Bake in a hot oven till the pastry is browned and puffed.
  8. Remove from the oven and fill the hollow with the filling and bake for another 5 minutes.

    Filling

  9. Heat the butter and cook the garlic and shallots till soft.
  10. Stir in the flour and add the milk gradually.
  11. Add the chicken stock powder and water.
  12. Heat till the mixture thickens.
  13. Stir the chicken, mushrooms and the cheese.
  14. Fill up the pastry with this filling as a specified above.
