Quick and Simple Dips

Dips are always popular at parties, but if you buy them they are expensive and filled with unwanted additives. Here’s a simple way to make lots of flavours with no fuss.

An all purpose dip base

Mix a jar of decent quality mayonnaise and a big tub of low fat plain yogurt together and you’ll get a huge bowl of plain dip base. This has the right levels of tartness and creaminess to suit most palates, but taste and adjust if required

Flavour to taste!

The only limit here is your imagination. Divide the dip base into as many bowls as you want dips, and to each one add a spoonful of spices, crushed herbs, garlic, grated cheese etc.

Some favourite dips

Add one of these to a bowl (about a cup full) of dip base:

  • A squeeze of tomato sauce (makes a mild dip popular with children)
  • Crushed garlic and black pepper
  • Basil and sweet paprika
  • Ground cumin and a few chilli flakes
  • Blue cheese
  • Dill and lemon zest (great with prawns)
  • Celery and walnut (finely chop both of these)

Enjoy!
